I am amazed that I was able to finish writing a book within the four months of having my surgery. My motivation was that while my experiences were fresh, I was able to produce a first-hand account of being a patient having a worn-out hip, having hip replacement surgery and being in recovery. My experiences are unique to me, but I feel the lessons learned are worth sharing. There is quite a bit of preparation and education before surgery. My book takes it further to steps you need to do for your own wellbeing.
I was laid up months before I had surgery so when I finally had the surgery, I was weak and debilitated. I had requested home health care, or a short term stay in a rehab facility. I was clearly and repeatedly denied both by the surgeon. Post op, I failed to thrive leading to a cascade of unfortunate events. At the time two of my sons worried that the end was near for me. It wasn’t.
I spent nine days in a rehab facility. I was able to regain the necessary strength I needed for a good recovery. I returned to my physical therapists and have been working diligently with them up until now where I am now in classes in the warm water pool and start a course of Tai Chi next week.
So, you can see why I would want to relate my story and the important steps for a successful experience. I will be four months out Sunday. I am seriously grateful for my now. It is a good place to be. Sunny home, bread making projects, planning garden projects, back to work on my RA book and my Mercy Girls book. Life is good.

Thanks. I have two others I am working on. I needed to finish this partially because it was fresh in my mind and because it was closure on a tough life’s experience.

I read a sample of your book on Amazon. What beautiful descriptions of your view and gardens! Just lovely. Ironically, my husband and I are staying just down the road from you tonight on our way to Phoenix. We are in Socorro.

Thank you for your comments. Our weather has been unseasonably warm. Feels good, but miss the rain. We are having a severe drought.

Thanks, Rick. I hope so too. Now I’m back to writing my original book. The subject matter will be a nurse’s guide to rheumatoid arthritis.
